Action Society is deeply disturbed by a growing number of cases of violence against the elderly. We believe the respect you show to your elders reflects the respect you have for yourself. Unfortunately, the current situation isn’t a good reflection at all.
Here are the current cases of elderly abuse we are overseeing. Our call on you is to give us your mandate to prosecute those who abuse our elderly.
Granny Azalea
A house in Langa in Cape Town became another scene of terrible elder abuse at the hands of a grandson who tried to kill his 85-year-old grandmother who we call Granny Azalea to protect her identity. Action Society signed a mandate and will be defending her cause in the courts.

Granny Blossom
Granny Blossom (as we call her to protect her identity), an elderly lady of 71 years from Strand was raped by her grandson on 13 August 2024. She died on 3 September 2024 apparently from natural causes. The suspect, a 27-year-old man has opted to abandon his bail application and will remain in custody to face a charge of rape. Action Society is overseeing the case.

Granny Clover
In July 2024 a video showing a grandmother being attacked by her grandson in Kraaifontein in Cape Town went viral. He has since been arrested and was granted bail with conditions. Action Society is overseeing the case and is calling the elderly victim Granny Clover.

Granny Ellen
Ellen Malan (89) was found murdered in her home in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain on September 28 2024. Action Society has been mandated to oversee the case and seek justice for her family. Her body was found with her hands tied in her house. She had eight grandchildren, 13 great–grandchildren. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday on October 15.

Give us your mandate to prosecute those who abuse our elderly.
