Yesterday, 27 June 2024, marked 500 days since the man accused of raping a 19-year-old aspiring model was arrested. He used his renown and fame to lure her to a photoshoot where he raped her. He last appeared at the Paarl regional court on 24 May 2024 where the case was postponed to 29 July 2024. Meanwhile, he is out on bail, free to commit the same crime again. Action Society calls for NO BAIL for perpetrators of violence against women and children.
Each day that goes by people begin to lose hope that justice will ever arrive for this young woman, and each time she goes to court she has to see him and relive what happened on that day over and over again.
“The justice system has completely failed this young woman. Not only have there been countless postponements in this case, but on 10 April 2024 he was granted bail in a decision we found unacceptable and appalling. We will not allow this case to lose momentum and for her story to be forgotten,” said Head of Action Society’s Action Centre, Kaylynn Palm.
