The justice system is failing victims of violent crime.

VIOLENT CRIME IS OUT OF CONTROL

South Africa stands as one of the most violent societies globally.

The crime statistics from the third quarter of 2023/24 (October to December 2023), released by the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 16 February 2024, paint a grim picture.

On average, 86 individuals are victims of homicide daily, while an alarming rate of 136 rapes are reported each day, which translates to approximately five incidents every hour.

CRIMINALS ARE ROAMING FREE

Despite these harrowing figures, the response from South Africa’s justice system appears insufficient.

The SAPS and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) report disturbingly low conviction rates: only 15% for murder cases, 8% for rape, and a mere 3% for trio crimes, which include hijackings, as well as residential and business robberies.

This stark disparity between the prevalence of crime and the conviction rates raises profound concerns about the effectiveness of the country’s judicial mechanisms.

IT IS TIME FOR ACTION

The ongoing crisis of violent crime in South Africa devastates lives, tears apart families, and destabilises communities. Yet, there has been a noticeable lack of a concerted governmental acknowledgment or response to this escalating crisis.

It is imperative for the government to recognize the severity of the situation and to mobilise a dedicated and robust strategy to address and curb this surge of violence.

In the face of these challenges, the call to action is clear: it is time for a change. Only through a decisive and focused response can we hope to restore justice and security in South Africa.

Cele must go!

The Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, is not doing his job. He should be putting strategies in place to curb and eradicate crime.

Stop your tax money being wasted on the #BlueLightMafia eight

Taxpayers will not foot the bill for SAPS members that are in custody for a violent crime – whether it is for their legal costs or for their salaries.

Ban the #BlueLightMafia

We demand an end to police brutality after a video showing a shocking incident of a group of armed police officers dragging a man from a blue VW Polo and seriously assaulting him and two others went viral.
