Action Society attended proceedings in the Charlene Pretorius murder trial today. The defence opposed an application by the State regarding the admissibility of a statement made by Willem Pretorius, the now-deceased father of accused Stephan Pretorius. The matter was postponed to 6, 7 and 9 October 2026 for the court to deliver its ruling and for the trial to continue.

Charlene Pretorius, a 42-year-old mother of three, was allegedly doused with petrol and set alight at her Pretoria North home on 27 May 2023. She later died in hospital. Her husband, Stephan Pretorius, stands accused of her murder.
Earlier this week, the forensic pathologist who conducted Charlene’s postmortem examination testified that she suffered first- and second-degree burns to approximately 30% of her body, as well as injuries to her respiratory system caused by flame inhalation. The pathologist confirmed that Charlene died as a result of the burns and multiple organ failure.
Action Society has supported Charlene’s family and monitored the case since 2023. The organisation will continue to attend proceedings and support the family as the trial progresses.
