In this submission, we articulate our stance on the National Policing Policy (NPP), drawing attention to critical areas where reform is imperative. Our submission aims to contribute constructively to the ongoing discourse surrounding the policy, advocating for changes that align with our vision of a just and secure South Africa. 

The National Prosecuting Authority Amendment Bill seeks to provide for the establishment of the Investigating Directorate against Corruption. The Bill will also propose that its powers and functions are to provide for the appointment of investigators in the Investigating Directorate against corruption, to provide for the appointment of investigators, to provide for the security screening of investigators, and to provide for the remuneration and conditions of service of investigators. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate Amendment Bill seeks to amend the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Act, 2011, so as to amend and insert certain definitions; to provide for the Directorate’s institutional and operational independence; to provide that the Directorate must be independent, impartial and must exercise its powers and functions without fear, favour, prejudice, or undue influence

The Criminal Law (Forensics Procedures) Amendment Bill makes provision for the full implementation of certain transitional arrangements contained in the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, 2013; to provide for the enforcement of the obligation to submit to the taking of a buccal sample; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

Three Gender Based Violence Bills were introduced in Parliament following a November 2018 Presidential Summit against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). The summit resolved, amongst others, to fast track the review of existing laws and policies on gender-based violence making them victim-centred, ensure all other relevant laws respond to GBV, revisit and fast track all outstanding laws and bills that relate to GBVF.
