Action Society urges the media to follow the trial of the two men accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering 22-year-old Asiphe Cetywayo. When the trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, 28 September, 939 days will have passed since her murder.
Asiphe was raped and murdered in Mbekweni, Paarl, on 3 March 2024. Her body was found the following day near the Vlakkeland dumping site and had reportedly been burnt with acid.
Cousins Mlungisi Manzi and Luzuko Manzi face charges of kidnapping, rape and murder. The case has been postponed repeatedly, including while DNA results and further particulars were outstanding. In December 2025, the State confirmed that its investigation was complete and that it intended to call 12 witnesses, including a forensic pathologist and a DNA analyst.
Action Society believes Asiphe’s case must remain in the public eye as the evidence is heard. Her family has waited more than two and a half years for the trial to begin.
