Action Society court wrap: Action society supported 22 victims of sexual assault, rape and murder

Sexual assault and rape at church
(Khayelitsha Regional Court: 4 December)
Action Society attended the case against the men who stand accused of forcing 19 women to strip naked and perform sexual acts on two men in a Khayelitsha church over the Easter weekend this year. The case was postponed to 22 January 2024 for further consultation. The incident occurred at the Blessings Zion Church.

Violet: Another postponement plagues rape case of minor girl*
(Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court: 4 December)
Justice has been delayed again for a 13-year-old rape victim after her case was postponed again. Altogether, the case has been postponed more than 10 times since 2019. The case appeared before the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates court again on 4 December 2023, and was postponed again to 17 January 2024. Violet was raped in 2019 and bringing her rapist to justice has been an uphill battle for both Action Society and Violet’s family. Postponement after postponement has the teenager having to relive the trauma every time the matter is brought to court. The reason for these postponements include faulty technical equipment at court, a full court roll and finally difficulty finding a French interpreter.

Action Society has been supporting the 16-year-old girl who was nearly killed after her ex-boyfriend stabbed her in the lungs.
