Action Society mandated to oversee murder case of Dorcas ‘Didi’ Lekganyane

Action Society has been mandated to oversee the murder investigation of Dorcas ‘Didi’ Lekganyane who was stabbed to death by her husband in their home in July of this year.  She was 32 years old at the time she was killed.

Dorcas had a very bright future ahead of her with an already promising career and reputation. She was recognised among Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans 2024 for research and contributions to the field of traditional medicine and environmental science.

Previous incidents of abuse had been reported in the past.

“Dorcas’ story reflects the experience of many young women in South Africa, and we will not allow for her name to be relegated to the headlines of yesteryear. Her story highlights the importance of obtaining a protection order once the abuse starts as well as laying charges and demanding a proper criminal investigation. Had Dorcas been supported to take these steps, she might still be with us,” said Action Society’s Kaylynn Palm.
