Action Society has sent a formal letter to the police regarding the investigation into the brutal and tragic death of Nomasonto Felicity Modzanane who was killed on 21 February 2024 when she was run over by a bakkie in Randfontein. Action Society has been mandated to oversee the case and we believe that transparency from the police will go a long way in getting this woman’s family answers to the many questions they have.
The incident was caught on CCTV cameras and sparked outrage on social media. The video shows the driver of the vehicle hitting Nomasonto and then reversing over her body. Action Society believes that the video is evidence that this was not an accident but rather a deliberate attempt on her life.
It has been more than six months since the incident occurred and no arrests have been made.
Given the public interest in this case and the distress it has caused the family and community, we requested a detailed update on the following:
1. The current status of the investigation and any action taken since the incident was reported.
2. The reasons for the delay in making an arrest despite clear evidence being available.
3. Any obstacles that may be hindering the progress of the investigation.
4. Why have the details of the suspects involved in the investigation not been made public or at the very least shared with Action Society and the family?
“We believe that a transparent relationship with the police involved with this case will go a long way in bringing Nomasonto’s killer to justice, or, at the very least, provide her family and friends with answers they have been waiting for for so long,” said Action Society spokesperson Juanita du Preez.
