Action Society to oversee murder case of Joshlin Marthinus

Action Society has been mandated to assist the family of Joshlin Marthinus, a 27-year-old mother who was killed by her ex-boyfriend in September 2024 in Atlantis in the Western Cape. The accused appeared at the Atlantis Magistrates Court in September and will be back in court on 2 December, 2024.

“This is a case of another woman, another mother, another daughter slain during the course of an abusive relationship. We need women and families to support one another to escape these kinds of relationships. We need to break the cycle of abuse. We need to raise young men that respect the ladies in their lives. Action Society will fight to bring justice to Joshlin’s family so that they can get the closure they need,” said Action Society’s Kaylynn Palm.

According to her family, Joshlin was last seen alive on 15 September 2024 when she went to the shops. She allegedly told the family she was going to see her ex-boyfriend regarding money he had promised to give her.

As time went by the family grew concerned about Joshlin and began to frantically look for her around town. Hours later, the young mother’s body was found under a bed at her former-boyfriend’s wendy house, with a plastic bag wrapped around her head.

Joshlin’s mother Sarah says her daughter was a wonderful person who now leaves behind two young children.

“We are heartbroken. My daughter did not deserve to die, especially not in this way. We cannot get over it; we are broken. The children ask about their mother and all I tell them is that she is with God and that she is an angel watching over them,” she said.

Her aunt, Johanna couldn’t hold back her tears, she said Joshlin was a kind-hearted person, someone she loved dearly, and was like her own child. “I miss her. She meant so much to me and to our family. She was always willing to assist wherever she could, she was a very  kind person and we will never forget her,” she said.
