Three children have been left motherless after their father slit their mother, Nadia Lotz’s throat.
According to reports, the 32-year-old Nadia from Strand in the Western Cape was in the passenger seat while her friend was driving. The boyfriend was seated in the back, leaned forward and slit her throat.
Sickeningly, he apparently played her favourite song in the car when he attacked her. After being assaulted, Lotz opened her door and jumped out while the vehicle was still moving. She collapsed on the sidewalk and died. The man who committed the crime is also the father of her three children.
A friend of Nadia, Jolene Willemse, said following the incident the suspect went to the police where he handed himself over for the alleged crime. He appeared in the Strand Magistrate’s Court on 10 March 2023. On the same day, community members held a protest outside the court.
“I want to see our justice system work this time round for the voiceless victim who the father of her children brutally murdered. We want justice; that’s all we are asking, that justice is served,” said Willemse.

She added that Nadia was her mother’s only child and that she was very heartbroken and hurt. “It is a sorrowful time for the family. Nadia was a lovely person and loved her family and kids dearly. We will miss her voice, smile, and everything about her. It is sad that it had to end like this,” she said.
The family told Action Society that it wasn’t the first time her partner assaulted her and that they want justice for her murder.
The suspect is back in court on 12 April 2023.
