Bloodbath: Today’s crime stats will show thriving violent crime in SA

Unfortunately, Action Society expects to see, yet again, a rise in contact crimes with the release of the fourth quarter of 2022/23 crime statistics today.

During the last quarter, between October and December last year, almost all crime spiked. The country then saw the murder rate climb to 84 murders per day and rape increased to almost six reported cases per hour.

“Adding insult to injury, only 14,5% of murders are solved,” said Ian Cameron, Director of Community Safety at Action Society. “South Africa is thus creating an environment for serial criminals to thrive. We urgently need change to the criminal justice system.”
