Bheki Cele is missing in action in Delft, after years of empty promises. The community lost five children in four incidents on RED Sunday, 10 September 2023. This brings the murder count in Delft for September to 16. “Bheki Cele is missing in action while the Delft community is bleeding uncontrolled,” explains Ian Cameron, Director of Community Safety at Action Society.
On Monday there were two fatal shooting incidents in the Hague, followed by another two incidents yesterday – one in Tinker bird Road in Gateway and another one in Thomas Street in Delft South.
Cameron described Delft as a warzone. “The police members in Delft cannot bring crime in this area under control even if they had the will to do so. The good cops are outnumbered and the rest are often corrupt. The Delft community has grown exponentially in the past few years, but police capacity hasn’t kept up and investigative capacity is at an all time low. The community complains that the police don’t react to shooting incidents – and it is true, because there are too many incidents and too little cops and vehicle capacity to cover all the incidents. At the moment, the wave of violent crime in Delft is growing unchecked, because of Bheki Cele’s mismanagement and neglect.”
