Child murderer Rochelle Botha’s appeal application denied

In a desperate last ditch effort, Rochelle Botha, who was found guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter, appealed the court’s decision of a 25-year sentence at the Johannesburg High court on Wednesday. Fortunately the court denied her application.

On 29 April, both Rochelle and Stefan van Niekerk were handed down sentences of 25 years and life respectively at the Johannesburg High court on counts of murder, assault GBH, sexual assault as well as rape involving a minor and various other charges.

“This desperate and pathetic ploy from Rochelle further illustrates how little remorse she has for what she did. She can complain all she wants, but fortunately justice is done and she is facing a very long time in prison where she belongs. Action Society will keep fighting for the same justice for children whose parents not only fail in their primary caregiving tasks but exploit, abuse and murder their children,” said Action Society spokesperson Juanita du Preez.
