Child rapist appeals guilty verdict; Action Society vows to fight decision

Action Society strongly condemns attempts by a convicted child rapist, to appeal his rape conviction of a 12-year-old girl. The accused was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment for her rape in October last year.

The (then) 12-year-old girl was raped by her uncle on 6 July 2019, and it proved to be one of Action Society’s most frustrating and drawn-out cases to date with more than 21 postponements over a time period of three years. Although we rejoiced in victory after hearing about the sentencing, we will fight with this young woman and her family to ensure that he remains behind bars for the duration of his sentence.

“We demand that the court not entertain this appeal. He is clearly a danger to society. He should never be free again. This is another ploy to manipulate the court process. He needs to face the consequences of his actions without delay. We are tired of criminals exploiting our judicial system and finding loopholes to avoid jail-time,” said Head of Action Society’s Action Centre, Kaylynn Palm.
