highligting the THE DNA BACKLOG

Justice for victims of gender-based violence (GBV) has been impossible for almost a year now! The DNA backlog figure of 172,787 cases — and counting — has left survivors, especially victims of rape, devastated with little hope that justice will be served.

Due to on-going problems regarding the processing of DNA samples, vital evidence required to convict perpetrators of GBV is blocked from entering the courtroom. SAPS system used to capture and track DNA evidence has been switched off!

Inevitably rapists and murderers are not being prosecuted. They have free reign. Without fear of repercussion they are roaming our streets, scornfully walking past their victim’s houses… All because SAPS has crippled the DNA evidence system and wrongdoers now cannot be convicted for their atrocious crimes.

Tens of thousands of brutal crime victims and their families are left in the dark with no idea IF or WHEN justice will prevail. The horrifying chapter of their life remains unclosed…

The SAPS Forensic DNA system has been down for almost a year, causing a backlog of unprocessed DNA samples.
WE CAN NOT LET SAPS OBSTRUCT JUSTICE.

I am one of the victims and my daughter is is victims too whose evidence package is unaccounted between Forensic Science Lab and Vereeniging FCS Unit for since 2012. There is no closure in our matter, which yields so much deep pain, frustration and depression. These guys do not understand the gravity of their actions.
