Gang-raped and videotaped – Action Society to support 14-year-old girl raped in Mitchells Plain

Action Society has been mandated to oversee the disturbing case of a 14-year-old girl who was gang-raped by five boys in October in Kapteinsklip Station in Mitchells Plain. The boys videotaped the incident and distributed it to members of the community.

According to reports, the boys were aged between six and 17. Three of them have been arrested and the next court appearance is scheduled for December 4, 2024 at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court

Action Society commends the young girl’s bravery and her willingness to speak openly with the investigative team.

“This is a sickening case and a serious indictment of how young men’s perception of how women should be treated have been warped. Not only did they rob this young woman of her dignity, they turned it into entertainment by sending it to their friends. If this is how young women are treated, we have a very long road ahead of us as a country to tackle GBV. However we will continue to fight for this girl until these rapists are given their due in prison,” said Kaylynn Palm.
