Die Suid-Afrikaanse minister van polisie, Bheki Cele, het planne om ‘n digitale vuurwapenpermitstelsel in te stel in ‘n poging om ongeregistreerde vuurwapens uit die strate te hou. Ian Cameron van die burgerregte-groep Action Society, het oor die digitalisering van die vuurwapenregister gesê die polisie moet eerder van die reeds beskikbare vuurwapenpermitstelsel gebruik maak:
