Members of the media are invited to attend The Gabriella Effect (TGE), a peaceful, family-led civic gathering calling for justice, accountability, and urgent progress in the investigation into the death of Nonkululeko Gabriella “Gaby” Luenza Ndaba.
Gaby disappeared in Boksburg on 26 May 2023. Six days later, on 1 June 2023, her body was discovered under a bridge in Van Dyk Park, just days before her 32nd birthday. Nearly three years later, her family is still without answers.
The gathering will take place at the very location where Gaby’s body was found and aims to place renewed public focus on the serious investigative failures and delays that have plagued the case from the beginning.
According to the Ndaba family, police failed to act urgently when Gaby was first reported missing, did not properly secure the scene where her body was discovered, and failed to follow up key investigative leads. The family has also raised concerns about missing case dockets, incomplete witness statements, delayed forensic processes, and conflicting communication from different SAPS structures regarding the future of the investigation.
Action Society has been supporting the family in engagements with SAPS and says the case highlights broader systemic failures that continue to leave families without justice.
“The longer investigations remain stalled, the harder it becomes to recover evidence, trace witnesses, and establish the truth,” says Juanita du Preez, national spokesperson for Action Society. “The public deserves to understand what has happened in this case, why critical delays continue, and what must now be done to prevent the investigation from collapsing completely.”
The event will include community participation, moments of reflection and healing, and discussions around accountability and solutions within the criminal justice system.
