MEDIA INVITATION: Leave to appeal application in Daniel Jamneck rape and murder case

Western Cape High Court on Thursday, 10 September 2026.

Daniel was raped and murdered on 15 June 2023 while attending a sleepover in Peerless Park North, Kraaifontein. The accused was convicted on 21 May 2026 and sentenced on 22 July 2026 to life imprisonment for Daniel’s rape, life imprisonment for his murder, eight years’ imprisonment for the sexual assault of Daniel and ten years’ imprisonment for the rape of Caren Brown. The sentences will run concurrently.

The case has also raised serious questions about alleged systemic failures preceding Daniel’s murder. The convicted offender had previously been convicted of rape but remained at large after failing to comply with a rehabilitation process. Concerns have also been raised about the handling of allegations involving other children.

Action Society became involved in June 2026 to support Daniel’s family and other affected parties, and to investigate possible accountability and legal remedies arising from these alleged failures.

“For Daniel’s family and Caren Brown, this application means returning to court and once again confronting crimes that have already caused immeasurable harm. Action Society will stand with them throughout this process. Justice for Daniel must be defended, while the systemic failures that allowed a convicted rapist to remain free must still be fully investigated,” says Juanita du Preez, national spokesperson for Action Society.
