Members of the media are invited to attend the sentencing proceedings in the rape and murder case of eight-year-old Daniel Jamneck at the Western Cape High Court.
The accused was convicted in May this year for the rape and murder of eight-year-old Daniel Jamneck. The case prompted Action Society to investigate systemic failures within the criminal justice system after it emerged that the offender had previously been convicted of rape, absconded from a court-ordered rehabilitation programme, and later faced an attempted rape charge that was withdrawn. Action Society believes these failures allowed a dangerous repeat sexual offender to remain free until Daniel was raped and murdered.
Victim impact reports were heard by the court today in preparation for sentencing. Action Society attended the proceedings in support of Daniel’s family and continues to provide oversight and assistance as they seek justice for their son.
Action Society representatives will again be present at court for the sentencing proceedings and will be available for media interviews before and after court.
