The family of Alwaba Sondara walked out of the Paarl Regional Court bitterly disappointed on Tuesday as her case has been postponed yet again. Her killer will only appear before the court again on 25 March next year after he killed the 20-year-old in January of 2022 after severely beating her.
“Today, Action Society stood at the Paarl Regional Court to seek justice for Alwaba Sondara, who tragically lost her life allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend of 9 months. However, the case has been postponed to 25 March 2024, due to the defence attorney falling ill. Our hearts go out to Alwaba’s family during this difficult time,” said Action Society’s Colleen Wolmarans.
Alwaba was brutally beaten by her boyfriend, Asive Kulwane (28 at the time) on 18 December 2021. The accused took her to the Khayelitsha hospital more than an hour away and then fled the area. Later, she was transferred to Tygerberg Hospital where she remained in a coma until she died on 12 January 2022.
