How many children must suffer and die?

During the first nine months of 2022, we saw the murder of 864 children, the attempted murder of 909 children and 5 502 cases of assault to do grievous bodily harm towards children.

In the past six months, Action Society was mandated to act as a watching brief where three toddlers – Mia Botha, Chevonne Rusch and Bokgabo Poo   – were kidnapped, raped, mutilated and murdered. Unfortunately, most offenders against children are repeat offenders.

Action Society wants accountability and action by petitioning for no bail for perpetrators of violence against children

Bokgabo Poo

Four-year-old Bokgabo Poo went missing on 10 October 2022, and parts of her mutilated body were found in two places the next day. Some parts are still missing.

The man accused of murdering Bokgabo was out on bail for the rape of a nine-year-old girl when he allegedly kidnapped, raped, murdered and mutilated her. According to the community, he distracted her friend by giving him money to go and buy sweets, and when he came back, Bokgabo was gone. Parts of Bokgabo’s mutilated body was found the day after she disappeared.

Chevonne Rusch

Chevonne Rusch’s stepfather dropped the blonde two-year-old’s lifeless body at a Germiston clinic in May 2022. She was wrapped in a blanket and had blood in her mouth and bruises all over her body. Chevonne had a wound on the back of her head. Her mother and stepfather were arrested for her murder. The case has been postponed to January 2023.

BokgaboPoo

Chatty little four-year-old Mia Botha was playing outside her house in Nederburg, Paarl, when her family last saw her. After her mother couldn’t find her, she and the community spent the whole evening looking for her. Mia’s abused body was found the next day in a schoolyard. Two suspects were arrested but never appeared in court. The police refuse to give the family any answers.
