Protecting relationship with Cele more important than saving lives to Ramaphosa

“Tonight’s cabinet reshuffle was President Ramaphosa’s final chance to show that he and the ANC government is serious about the fight against crime,” said Ian Cameron, the Director of Community Safety at Action Society. “The fact that Bheki Cele remains safely in his position as Minister of Police, despite all his failures and shortcomings, shows that the government has no intention to end crime in South Africa. The ANC, in fact, has blood on its hands.”

Action Society, along with other experts in crime fighting, has offered many solutions to the crime situation in the past, the top of it being getting rid of Bheki Cele. Yet, none of those suggestions has been implemented.

“President Ramaphosa’s legacy will not be that he turned around South Africa for the better,” said Cameron. “His legacy will be that 84 people lost their lives through murder today as he was protecting his relationship with Bheki Cele.”
