Sentencing of Sivuyile Tshabile – Convicted Murderer of Nosiphiwo James

Action Society invites members of the media to attend the long-awaited sentencing of convicted murderer Sivuyile Tshabile at the Khayelitsha Regional Court.

Date: Monday, 8 September 2025
Time: Journalists to arrive between 08:30 and 09:00
Venue: Khayelitsha Regional Court

Case Background:

  • In May 2022, Nosiphiwo James was brutally murdered with a screwdriver by Tshabile.
  • After fleeing to the Eastern Cape, he was eventually tracked down and arrested with Action Society’s assistance.
  • The case has since been plagued by postponements caused by missing documents, unavailable witnesses, and systemic delays.
  • In May 2025, Tshabile was finally found guilty of Nosiphiwo’s murder.
  • Despite the conviction, sentencing has been repeatedly delayed — compounding the trauma for Nosiphiwo’s family.

Action Society is calling for the maximum possible sentence to be imposed.

“For more than three years, Nosiphiwo’s family has waited for justice while facing delay after delay. On 8 September, we hope the court will finally honour their suffering with a decisive sentence that reflects the brutality of this crime,” said Kaylynn Palm, head of Action Society’s Action Centre in the Western Cape.

Action Society will attend proceedings and be available for media comment.
