“It is because of closed-door politicking that crime is rising, and South Africans are losing trust in the South African Police Service by the second,” said Ian Cameron, director of community safety at Action Society.
The top SAPS officials will receive a full report on the mass tavern shootings in Soweto over the weekend this morning. However, according to the Police Ministry’s press release, the high-level meeting will be closed to the media and, by extension, to the public. The press will be allowed to attend the site visit after the meeting.
“We need to see transparency in the police,” said Cameron. “We don’t want the PR-version of what happened. We want the truth.”
