What should have been a day of celebration is now a stark reminder of the murder of Bokgabo Poo. The Poo family instead asked all primary schools and daycare centres to pass by Bokgabo’s home today (12 January) to tie a balloon on the gate to keep her memory alive.
Bokgabo was murdered in October 2022, but no suspect has pleaded in court yet. She would have turned five today.
“To this day, the family has had no feedback from SAPS even after countless requests on the investigation’s progress,” said Tshepi Mmekwa, Action Centre coordinator at Action Society. “Action Society has no choice but to compel the South African Police Service to give feedback on this case, given that we have the mandate to do so. It is preposterous that families are left in limbo, not knowing if they will ever get closure in disheartening matters.
“It seems like this family will never find answers and peace if the police continue dragging their feet and ignoring the family’s cries for action.”
The family also decided to give away Bokgabo’s clothes to needy children on her birthday.
The suspect, in this case, will appear in court on 14 February 2023.
