Action Society demands answers from police regarding alleged claims of recklessness, misconduct and negligence

Action Society demands answers after it came to light that a total of 43 954 cases of alleged recklessness, negligence and misconduct cases are pending against the police as of the end of June 2024. In addition, the amount of alleged contingent liability owed by the police as a result of the above claims amounts to a staggering R65 billion.

“One of Action Society’s primary functions is to keep our police accountable for their actions. We hope that these claims are exaggerated, but if they happen to be true, we demand an urgent answer from the minister of police on what will be done to eradicate corrupt and criminal behaviour within the ranks of the South African Police Service (SAPS),” said Action Society’s Juanita du Preez.
