Action Society request meeting with senior prosecutor to end court delays in Nosiphiwo James murder case

Action Society announced their intention to schedule an urgent meeting with the senior prosecutor of the Khayelitsha Regional Court discuss the reasons for countless seemingly unexplained delays in the murder case of Nosiphiwo James, a 29-year-old mother of two who was stabbed by her boyfriend with a screwdriver in 2022. The matter was postponed to 27 February where the witnesses will testify in court.

Action Society was involved from the beginning, identifying the accused’s whereabouts through our private investigators. This led to the accused’s arrest in the Eastern Cape. Unfortunately, the cooperation from SAPS’ side stopped there.

“As the minimum outcome of this meeting, we want to see clear steps that will ensure that the case moves forward. We believe this should include an investigation into the Investigating Officer in this case.” According to Palm, the investigating officer assigned to the case has blatantly ignored and avoided Action Society since the organisation was mandated to oversee the case in 2022. “We have the best outcomes when we collaborate with the police and prosecuting teams in the pursuit of justice. It is unacceptable that the people assigned to investigate Nosiphiwo’s case have become an obstacle to justice. Our intent is to continue our work to assist the court to get justice for Nosiphiwo. SAPS need to get on board!”

Nosiphiwo, was stabbed to death by her boyfriend using a screwdriver in Khayelitsha on 8 May 2022, moments before a mass shooting broke out, killing six men. Police found her body amongst the six men, but it was clear that she wasn’t one of the shooting victims. Her boyfriend was nowhere to be found. He had assaulted her several times before, and her family reported he was extremely jealous.
