Action Society to oversee murder and kidnap case of 57-year-old woman

Action Society has been mandated to oversee the brutal and senseless kidnapping and murder case of Charlene Josephs, a 57-year-old woman from the Western Cape. Charlene’s lifeless body was found buried in a municipal landfill site after she was kidnapped and missing for more than a month.

On 10 July 2024, a group of masked gunmen entered Charlene’s home in Lavender Hill after her power suddenly shut off while she was watching television. In the sheer and sudden darkness, they forcefully dragged her out of her house at gunpoint and got into a car and fled. Charlene’s body was found on 19 August 2024 in a deserted area behind the Muizenberg landfill site, riddled with stab wounds.

Thus far three men have appeared in the Wynberg magistrates court in connection with her murder. Their first appearance was on 20 August 2024 and their latest appearance was on 27 September 2024; they are set to appear again on 17 October 2024 for further investigation. Police stated that a multi-disciplinary team has been set up and tasked to investigate her murder.

“These types of people should not be part of our society. They have demonstrated that they have no regard for human life or dignity. Charlene’s family is devastated and desperate for any answers surrounding her murder. Action Society will rally all the resources and expertise at its disposal to ensure her killers never see the light of day again,” said Action Society’s Kaylynn Palm.
