Action Society welcomes life sentence of Allison Plaatjie murderer

Action Society wants to congratulate the prosecuting team in Allison Plaatjie’s murder case for standing their ground and proving that Phillip April intentionally tortured and killed his ex-girlfriend in October 2019.

April gave a watered-down explanation of how he killed Allison (from Clanwilliam in the Western Cape) and denied stealing her car, but State Advocate René Uys rejected his account of the events. Judge Ralarala agreed and sentenced April to life imprisonment for the murder and five years for the theft of Allison’s car.

“One more murderer off the street,” said Ian Cameron, director of community safety at Action Society. “We welcome the court’s decision to remove April from society. We urge all courts to see gender-based violence and femicide in the same serious light and act accordingly.”
