“Considering the current failed Police Minister, Bheki Cele, as the next Minister of Intelligence is the most absurd and illogical thing we have ever heard,” said Ian Cameron, director of Community Safety at Action Society. “If this becomes a reality, South Africa’s political and general crime problem will worsen drastically.”
Under Cele’s mismanagement of the South African Police Service, the murder rate has reached its highest levels ever, with 84 people murdered every day.
During the July 2021 riots centred around KwaZulu-Natal, Cele’s lack of police intelligence considerably worsened the situation leading to the loss of lives as well as massive economic losses for the country and individuals.
Furthermore, Cele’s inefficient leadership as National Commissioner and Minister of Police has led to a negative disposition under many SAPS members, with domestic violence within police ranks increasing three-fold.
“Everything Bheki Cele gets involved with becomes an abysmal failure,” said Cameron. “He should play absolutely no role in any form of government.”
