Another month has gone by in which Siphokazi Booi’s abuser-murderer Sithobele Qebe, “Rasta” in the community, did not pay for his actions. He will appear in court on 27 June 2023 for the umpteenth time.
Qebe murdered Siphokazi in September 2021, then chopped up her body, stuffed it into a wheelie bin, burnt and then dumped her near the railway in Mbekweni in the Western Cape. Qebe was out on bail at the time of the murder after being charged with assault for allegedly beating Siphokazi to the point where she was admitted to the hospital that August. She was murdered three weeks later.
To Action Society Siphokazi Booi represents the thousands of victims of violent crime in South Africa. Action Society will be participating in another mass gathering on Tuesday 27 June 2023 to demand justice for Siphokazi.
Action Society has been overseeing Siphokazi’s murder case since 2021. The case has been delayed several times as Qebe is manipulating the process.
“We will continue to shine the light on Siphokazi’s case and we will be here for every court appearance,” says Ian Cameron, Director of Community Safety at Action Society. “We will continue to say her name. We will continue to say everyone of our victim’s names so that no-one ever forgets they were once someone’s sister, daughter, friend. We hope that President Ramaphosa and all the ministers involved in the crimimal justice system, takes note too.”
Action Society invites the media and other interested persons to join the gathering at court or to virtually support the case at the following link: https://actionsociety.co.za/siphokazi-booi/.
