Even though it has been over a year, there is now a slight move forward in the Nosiphiwo James’ case, which Action Society oversees. Her case appeared before the Khayelitsha Regional Court yesterday and was postponed to 2 November for plea negotiations.
“Abuse tolerance in our justice system is too high, and that is why abusers get away with criminal conduct for years and with multiple victims. This needs to stop. Even if the process is slow, Action Society will continue to oversee cases like Noziphiwo’s to not only get justice but also to shine the light on the painstakingly slow justice process,” says Kaylynn Palm, Action Centre Coordinator at Action Society.
Mother of two, Nosiphiwo (29), was stabbed to death by her boyfriend using a screwdriver in Khayelitsha on 8 May last year, moments before a mass shooting broke out, killing six men. Police found her body amongst the six men, but it was clear that she wasn’t one of the shooting victims. Her boyfriend was nowhere to be found. He had assaulted her several times, and her family reported he was extremely jealous. Action Society’s private investigators worked closely with the local police, found the suspect in the Eastern Cape, and brought him back to Cape Town, where he was arrested.
“This case is nearing its end, and we are proud to have been instrumental in bringing this abuser to justice. Justice may still be delayed, but it will not be denied any longer,” concluded Palm.
